Why The Metaverse?

I’ve given you multiple examples of how humans crave experiencing alternate universes. Up to now, they get those alternate universes in multiple forms (dreaming, story telling, cinema, radio, TV, online games, etc).

So far these multiple forms have served us well. So why do we need to have a form that totally covers our eyes completely, through the use of Virtual Reality (VR) headsets?

The answer is simple.

The EXPERIENCE you will get with a VR headset will be so far superior than anything else that you wouldn’t want to be without it.

Yes, I know that some of you have worn VR headsets before and didn’t find the experience any better. In fact, you actually hated the experience.

Well, that’s because you were not wearing the right VR headset and/or viewing the right VR application.

I know this because I had tried VR headsets some years ago and didn’t see what the big deal was once the novelty wore off.

But just a couple of months ago I tried the latest VR headset. Jeff Lee from our Web3 community urged me to try his VR headset because he said it’ll blow my mind this time.

And so I gave it another shot.

And what do you know…I’m now fully convinced that the metaverse or metaverses that are accessed by the right VR headset with the right VR apps developed by awesome VR teams and marketed by the right VR champions will be a big part of our lives in the coming years.

Huge improvements in hardware, software and speed for VR headsets are part of the reasons why this is the case.

With these huge improvements and advancements in VR technology, VR will finally fulfill its potential in the following areas:

1. Social Interactions

The metaverse provides a platform for individuals to connect and interact with friends, family, and like-minded people from all over the world.

It allows for immersive social experiences, virtual hangouts, and shared activities, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Yes, you are already doing that now with Web2 platforms like ZOOM, FB, TikTok, etc. But the metaverse will enhance your experience significantly such that you will be sure to want to try it out at least, if not make it a regular part of your life.

2. Entertainment and Gaming

The metaverse offers a wide range of entertainment options, including virtual concerts, live performances, immersive storytelling experiences, and interactive gaming.

Participants can engage in multiplayer games, compete with others, and explore virtual worlds filled with adventure and exploration.

Concerts and sports will be entirely transformed by VR. EVERYONE can now get a front-row seat at a concert or sports event that may be thousands of miles away. This is also a good thing for the organiser who can sell even more tickets, as it is not limited by the space at the venue.

3. Virtual Commerce

The metaverse serves as a digital marketplace where participants can buy and sell virtual assets, including NFTs, virtual real estate, artwork, and collectibles.

It provides opportunities for entrepreneurs, creators, and artists to monetize their digital creations and for participants to discover and acquire unique digital items.

Yes, they can already do this on the various Web2 marketplaces — but this is mostly a boring and unexciting experience. The metaverse will transform the experience.

4. Education and Learning

The metaverse can be a powerful tool for education and learning.

Virtual classrooms, workshops, and training programs can be conducted within the metaverse, allowing participants to engage in interactive and immersive learning experiences.

Virtual simulations and collaborative environments can enhance educational opportunities.

Again, e-learning in Web2 format has been around for years now, but this format lacks the interaction that the metaverse can provide.

5. Work and Productivity

The metaverse has the potential to transform the way we work.

Virtual offices, coworking spaces, and collaboration tools within the metaverse can enable remote work, virtual meetings, and seamless collaboration among teams. It provides new avenues for productivity, creativity, and professional development.

A co-working space provider in the metaverse does not need to rent any physical space at all and still provide interactive collaborations between team members, with an unlimited space for “rent” by their customers.

6. Virtual Tourism and Exploration

The metaverse allows participants to explore virtual replicas of real-world locations or entirely new imaginative worlds.

Virtual tourism can offer immersive experiences of famous landmarks, historical sites, or fictional environments. Participants can travel virtually and discover new cultures, environments, and experiences.

This is also relevant to real estate agents or house owners who don’t need to meet up with their potential clients the first time as the latter need only wear a VR headset to take a tour of the property they are interested in, saving the agent or homeowner a lot of time.

7. Personal Expression and Customization

The metaverse empowers individuals to express themselves creatively and customize their digital avatars or virtual spaces.

Participants can showcase their personality, style, and creativity through virtual fashion, accessories, and virtual home customization.

8. Health and Wellness

The metaverse can support health and wellness initiatives.

Virtual fitness classes, mindfulness experiences, and wellness activities can be accessed within the metaverse, promoting physical and mental well-being.

Virtual support groups and therapy sessions can also be conducted, providing a safe and accessible environment for individuals.

My bet for a killer wellness VR app?

Meditation.

Only this time you open (not close) your eyes to look at the various imageries presented to you that are designed to evoke certain emotions and states of mind.

9. Research and Innovation

The metaverse can serve as a platform for research, experimentation, and innovation.

Virtual laboratories, collaborative research environments, and simulation tools can facilitate scientific discoveries, technological advancements, and problem-solving across various fields.

Also “dissection” of bodies can be virtual and the learning will be sped up significantly as each part of the body can be labeled within the virtual world.

=======

There are more.

Many, many more than I can write about.

In fact, there will be an UNLIMITED number of uses that the metaverse will conjure up as the images or animations need not be limited by any physical laws like in the real world.

Because there is no limit on what can be pictured or shown, the metaverse can create amazing experiences that a flat screen like your smartphone or computer cannot.

With that said, however, the better experience provided for all of the above uses needs also to be COMFORTABLE for its users to engage with each other for long periods of time.

If it’s not comfortable to use even if the experience is better, users won’t be able to use it for long and they won’t look forward to using it — and the metaverse will fail.

Which is why the provider of the VR headset needs to be a company that fully understands what it takes, and is able to deliver it, and at an affordable price so that the masses can come onboard.

And we all know the name of that one company that is most suitable to do this — don’t we?
